Praying for Peace and Justice on September 6, 2026
Let us pray.
God, we cry out for justice.
What our government is doing is madness. It is evil.
And we ask for your power to tear it all down.
We pray for DC, his daughters, and his partner.
We pray for the thousands of others like them all over this country.
Lord, hear their cry.
Amen
Background
Some of you know I volunteer as a Haitian Creole translator for the Amica Center, an immigrant rights organization headquartered here in DC. On Thursday I translated for a lawyer and a Haitian immigrant, I‘ll refer to him by his initials, DC, as they discussed his case. A few weeks ago, DC was riding in the car with his 17 year-old daughter when 3 unmarked SUVs surrounded their car and forced them onto the shoulder. The masked officers pulled him from the car and handcuffed him before sending DC’s daughter home. When the lawyer asked about the impact of his arrest and detention on his family, DC began to weep. I can’t get the image of him sitting there, with his hands covering his face, unable to speak. So my prayer for peace and justice today is for DC, and the thousands of others like him, who are being imprisoned, and their families and friends.
