Gracious Living God, 

Each week we come beseeching you to give us the strength and courage to find what is ours to do to bring justice to and relieve the suffering of so many in our world – immigrants, poor people, people of color, queer people, people in war zones, those living in areas deeply affected by climate change, our non-human fellow creatures.  The list goes on.

Today we offer gratitude.  Gratitude for all those who bring joy and creativity to us, not separate from the suffering but in the midst of it. …

Holy One, we are facing hard and frightening times, both as citizens and as a species. We are putting so much energy into trying to follow your guidance, and turn humanity toward a better path. But your creation is bigger than that. We are part of a world that includes millions of other species, and we have obligations of justice, and mercy, toward them as well. Animals need peace and justice too, and their plight at human hands is heartbreaking. They are not ours, to use as we please. Help us find the focus and energy to keep our eyes on the ultimate goal – your peaceable kingdom where the entire planet can live in harmony and health.…

Let us pray…    God of justice, 

The memory of George Floyd still haunts our streets and sanctuaries.  We remember his name and the uprising of sorrow and truth his death unleashed across the world. We confess the sin of racism—not only in systems and structures, but in the habits of our hearts and the silence of your church. Break open our hearts with compassion. Strengthen us to fight for what still remains undone. 

Breathe your Spirit into your people, until all can breathe free.    May it be so.

Holy One,

God, grant us gratitude, patience, and compassion towards our companions in the work–and the same to them, for us. Give us the courage and strength to add our voices to the choir, and the wisdom and discernment to know when to rest and let others carry the note. Give us honesty to unearth conflict, and skillfulness and humility to resolve it. May we experience this connection as a mirror of Your divine love, not only in our minds and spirits, but in our bodies. Let us pray:

Dear Mother God, we are horrified by all of the evil loose in our world right now, much of it directed at mothers.

Please give us your embracing comfort, so that we can turn our attention to all that we appreciate in the earthly mothers who loved and cared for us.  

And help us to provide that mothering love to all those who need it at this time.
