A Prayer for the Breath of God

Praying for Peace and Justice on April 26, 2026

Let’s take a moment to arrive.

Feel your feet on the ground…
your body in the chair…
your breath, just as it is.

We come together this morning not as individuals carrying the weight alone,
but as a circle—
a living body of shared intention.

We pray by releasing the illusion
that prayer alone takes care of everything,

And that prayer may be all we can do at times.

We are people who care deeply.
And because we care, we can become impatient—
wanting more justice,
more clarity,
more response, particularly in the way we want.

But we are reminded, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin wrote, that —

“Above all, trust in the slow work of God…”

The work of living out call and expecting results, and
the work of calling forth depth, courage, vulnerability…
this is slow work.

Help us to follow the breathe of God.

To breathe in the breath of God is not something we can manufacture,
but something we are invited to participate in.

The injustices, and the people who hurt

usually do not listen to truth, and/or cannot be convinced.
They need to be inspired and loved.

And inspiration arises
not from pressure…
but from authenticity,
from presence,
from action,

from patience,

from listening deeply to the breath of God.

We don’t need to rant and rage, but love, and wait on the “slow work of God.”

We are, as Teilhard says,
“on the way to something unknown… something new.”

And that is not a problem to solve—
it is a reality to trust.

So, we allow ourselves
to be in process,
to be unfinished,
to be guided,

to listen deeply,

to fight with love.

May this be so in us,

Amen
