And then the sun rose and Jesus was alive and terror fled and the Resurrection was an inner brightness as glorious as the outer brightness of the Transfiguration.
CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: The stone rejected by the builder
has become the chief cornerstone.
Leader: Arisen from the grave,
Christ lives among us.
Leader: Defying the voices of doubt and fear,
Christ lives within us.
Leader: Christ is risen!
All: Christ is risen indeed. Alleluia!
WORD FOR THE CHILDREN
Leader: The sun rises and Jesus is alive,
People: But the terror hasn’t fled.
Leader: The inner brightness of the Resurrection
is too bright for us.
People: We are afraid of what we see.
Leader: The outer brightness of the Transfiguration
reveals a broken world.
People: We feel powerless and inadequate
in the face of such need.
Leader: We fail to follow Jesus.
All: We fail to celebrate the Resurrection.
INDIVIDUAL PRAYERS OF CONFESSION
Leader: The risen Christ is the light in our lives,
a light that is wholly love,
bringing us comfort and forgiveness.
PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING AND INTERCESSION
PRAYER OF DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT
All: O Holy One, we come today
to claim our relationship with you.
We pray for the commitment to grow together,
sharing the gifts you give us with others
here and in the wider world.
Forgive us for the hurt we have inflicted,
and help us forgive those who have hurt us.
Give us strength and discipline
to nurture our relationship with you;
to care for every part of your creation;
to foster justice and be in solidarity with those in need;
to work to end all war, and violence, and discord;
and to respond joyfully when you call,
freely giving our selves as you have shown the way.
We open our hearts to you and your creation
in the name of Jesus, who is the Christ.
Leader 1: Holy, Luminous Mystery, we give you thanks
that you turn our mourning into dancing,
and fill us with the brightness of resurrection.
Voice 1: We give you thanks
for the wonder of each day’s new dawn,
bearing the bright promise of healing and peace.
Voice 2: We give you thanks for the gift of the Holy Spirit,
filling our mouths with laughter,
and our hearts with wonder and delight.
All: We give you thanks for Jesus, the Christ,
who lived and died and rose again,
lighting our way to new life in him.
BLESSING THE ELEMENTS
Leader 2: Christ invites everyone to eat the bread of life,
to drink the cup of the new covenant.
Leader 1: Jesus said, I am the bread of life.
You who come to me shall never hunger,
You who believe in me shall never thirst.
Leader 2: On the night of his arrest, Jesus took bread,
and after giving thanks to God, broke it and said,
This is my body, which is for you;
do this remembering me.
Leader 1: After supper, Jesus took the cup and said,
This is the cup of the new covenant;
Whenever you drink it, do so remembering me.
Leader 2: And so we eat this bread and drink from this cup
in the glorious light of Christ’s risen body,
and proclaim the mystery of faith:
All: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.
