A Prayer to Know the Love, Beauty, Awe and Wonder that God intends for us

Praying for Peace and Justice on October 26, 2025

Holy Creator, in this time of fear and feeling like the ground we stand on is crumbling beneath our feet, we struggle to know what is ours to do to make sure that our children and the generations that follow are imbued with the love, beauty, and sense of awe and wonder that you intend for all.

To my beloved community I offer as prayer Crys Matthews’ inspirations for her song Battle Hymn for an Army of Lovers from six muses:

Her mom reminded her that she had seen many presidents come and go in her lifetime and was still standing. Love and faith guide her and that, and can guide us.

“An army of lovers shall not fail” from Rita Mae Brown is an amazingly beautiful sentiment that doesn’t really need much context beyond that.

Michelle Obama’s “When they go low, we go high” has become a mantra to try to embody every day.

Nelson Mandela said No one is born hating another person. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.

People Get Ready by Curtis Mayfield amplified the climate in America during the civil rights movement, and is an invitation.

And Julia Ward Howe, who wrote the Battle Hymn of the Republic offered these words: “let us live to make men free”.

“When we find ourselves incapable of seeing eye to eye” let us hold these principles and hold fast to work for the world the Holy One gave us all. Amen
