Sermons

Seekers recognizes that any member of the community may be called upon by God to give us the Word, and thus we have an open pulpit with a different preacher each week. Sermons preached at Seekers, as well as sermons preached by Seekers at other churches or events, are posted here, beginning with the most recent.

Feel free to use what is helpful from these sermons. We only ask that when substantial portions are abstracted or used in a written work, please credit Seekers Church and the author, and cite the URL.

"Speech, Language and Wisdom" by Margreta Silverstone

September 17, 2006

In some Jewish traditions, there is a story that the world is held together by a few righteous people. They do not know they are the Vavnik themselves. You may be someone’s wisdom teacher. I may be someone’s wisdom teacher. Does this change anything in the way you live? Does this change anything in the way that we relate to this church and our journeys of faith? Does this change our search for wisdom?

September 06, 2006

I like to be right. I like to be good at things. I like to walk through the house I have built on my competence and admire it, noticing the details I have carefully carved into the wood, the polish I have given the floors, the thick rugs I have carefully chosen, the pictures I have lovingly hung on the walls.

“Labor and Inner Work” by Marjory Zoet Bankson

September 03, 2006

We live in a culture that breeds separateness. We use our money to buy privacy. Cell phones give us the illusion of connection and IPods take us away from each other even when we are standing close. We literally do not know that we make a difference to one another
