Sermons

Seekers recognizes that any member of the community may be called upon by God to give us the Word, and thus we have an open pulpit with a different preacher each week. Sermons preached at Seekers, as well as sermons preached by Seekers at other churches or events, are posted here, beginning with the most recent.

Feel free to use what is helpful from these sermons. We only ask that when substantial portions are abstracted or used in a written work, please credit Seekers Church and the author, and cite the URL.

“Be Not Too Hard” by David Lloyd

October 4, 2009

2009 recommitment bulletin

Be not too hard for life is short and nothing is given to man.

Be not too hard when he’s sold or bought for he must manage the best he can.

Be not too hard when he blindly dies fighting for things he does not own

And be not too hard when he tells lies or when his heart is sometimes like a stone.

Be not too hard for soon he’ll die, often no wiser than he began.

Be not too hard for life is short and nothing is given to man.

And nothing is given to man.

Speaking of Addiction

September 20, 2009

2009 recommitment bulletin

A group of Seekers who are in various stages of recovery from addiction to drugs or alcohol told part of their personal stories. We were reminded of the courage, discipline, and faith required to confront and recover from addictions, and challenged to consider the addictions in our own lives.

“This is My Body” by Sandra Miller

2009 recommitment bulletin

Good morning.  So, how do I look?  Last week I was told I looked elegant.  It was nice to hear.  This week I’m going for smashing.  Did I succeed?  It is not mere vanity that moves me to begin this way, and hopefully you will understand me as saying that I have been beautifully and wonderfully made in the image of God.  When I look at the trees in all their green finery or think about their fall raiments I know that God likes nice clothes too.

“The Children’s Empire” by Pat Conover

First of all, it is important that we model good behavior for the children during worship.  It is not always easy to remain alert and attentive during worship despite the best efforts of Celebration Circle.  With their support I have ordered two staffs from a Pilgrim Replica supply service.

“Take this Bread” by Aeren Martinez

Summer 2009 coverSara found community through communion; she translated sharing food as a real life manifestation of communion. Like Sara, I find communion a deeply moving spiritually intimate act. It is one of the most personal things you can do in church, sans foot washing on Maundy Thursday.
