Seekers recognizes that any member of the community may be called upon by God to give us the Word, and thus we have an open pulpit with a different preacher each week. Sermons preached at Seekers, as well as sermons preached by Seekers at other churches or events, are posted here, beginning with the most recent.

“The Spiritual Practice of Gratitude as an Antitdote to Fear” by Jesse
October 24, 2010

I so much appreciate how we Seekers work with the Word not only through the Lectionary passages–but also view the lives of each of us as Living Scripture. Or, as we would say in clinical pastoral education, each of us is “The Living Human Document”. In my experience, this is a major piece of why Seekers is so amazingly able to empower so many of us to find and follow our individual callings. I am tremendously appreciative!
“Rekindle the Gift of God: Put Down Your Roots” by Peter Bankson
October 17, 2010

As I did my homework for the covenant class and, reflected on how faithful people have understood God’s covenant over the millennia, three things about commitment became freshly clear to me:
• Commitment is all about relationships;
• We need to put down some roots in order to grow; and
• Life is a cycle, with beginnings and endings to celebrate all the time.
A Sermon by Elizabeth Gelfeld
October 10, 2010

A year ago you had a longtime Steward of this church, one of the Servant Leadership Team, leading you in this reflection, and now you have me, a newcomer who has yet to make her first public commitment to Seekers Church. I think this is pretty daring of you, and I appreciate your trust. May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable to the Lord our God, my strength and my salvation.

“We respond joyfully with our lives, as the grace of God gives us freedom” by Jill Jospeh
October 3, 2010

During the season re-commitment, I approached the preparation of these reflections with the Lectionary in one hand and our Commitment Statement in the other, much as others have preached to us with the Lectionary in one hand and the newspaper in the other. Today I ponder the fundamental question of why is it that we come together in this community of faith.
