Seekers recognizes that any member of the community may be called upon by God to give us the Word, and thus we have an open pulpit with a different preacher each week. Sermons preached at Seekers, as well as sermons preached by Seekers at other churches or events, are posted here, beginning with the most recent.

Committed to Being Opened Up by David W. Lloyd

Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost
Dearly beloved, I am speaking today to those of you who are going to make a commitment to Seekers Church for the first time. I hope the rest of you listen because everything I’ll say also pertains to you! Almost everyone who has worshipped here has commented that Seekers Church is different from other churches in which they’ve worshipped. Yes, and Recommitment Sunday is one such difference. Recommitment Sunday is a tradition from the Church of the Saviour that Seekers Church has faithfully kept since our founding fifty years ago as one of the Church of the Saviour sister communities. Of the Sundays that require each Seeker to prepare for, Recommitment Sunday has always been third, behind Easter and Christmas. It is always observed on the third Sunday of October, the day on which the Church of the Saviour was founded in 1947.
Dreaming About Recommitment by John Morris

Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost
Henry James, commenting on writing fiction, warned, “Tell a dream, lose a reader.” This is good advice for talking about dreams too: You really shouldn’t assume other people will find your dreams as fascinating and pregnant with meaning as you do.
Nevertheless, I’m going to start this sermon with the unpromising topic sentence:
Let me tell you about a dream I had a few nights ago.

Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost
It is the season of Recommitment, but we have not been talking about that much. Last week, Paul began his brief sermon with a reminder that our commitment statements as Seekers include a promise to “work for the ending of all war, public and private.” Today, I want to focus on another of our promises.
Introduction to the Seekers Community Conversation by Paul Holmes

Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost
This is the fourth Sunday of the Seekers recommitment season, a time when we intentionally re-explore our commitment to Christ and to Seekers Church. This morning and every Sunday, as an integral part of our worship, we recommitted ourselves to “work to end all war, violence and discord.” Today, we have a unique opportunity to further explore that commitment. We have an opportunity to ask ourselves: Do we take that commitment to heart? Do we take it seriously? Are we really “committed” to it? And if so, how do we live out that commitment in our individual and corporate lives?
A Service in the Style of Taizé for Recommitment 2024

Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost
From time to time Seekers Church takes time out from its regular preaching schedule for a service of chant, prayer and reflection modeled on the worship of the Taizé Community in France. This Sunday was one such time. Repeating the chants together until they die away into the silence provides rest for our world-weary spirits as well as an opportunity for individual reflection on our faith journeys. As we joined in spirit with the monks at Taizé, we were nourished by their faithfulness as well as by their music. Our chants were accompanied and supported by Glen Yakushiji at the piano.
