Let us pray, 

Dear God, Mother of Life, Father of the Universe, our souls are deeply troubled and cry out for mercy, as violence is being perpetrated with impunity and justified by our government against innocent people, even blaming the victims. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? We deeply grieve at lives snuffed out and torn apart from families and rendering communities terrified. Our outrage at these atrocities leaves us speechless as we yearn for help. In our weakness we join your Spirit who intercedes with groans too deep for words.…

O Holy One, in whom all things hold together, we gather on this Epiphany Sunday to celebrate the Wise-ones who read the night-sky across trackless deserts like ocean-navigators. Wise to the ways of the inner journey, they also listened to their dreams which warned of Herod’s plan to kill the Christ-child. 

Make us wise to the ways of cruel and jealous leaders and strengthen our  call for justice and mercy in this time and place. Bless our communal Confession of Faith, which is posted in the hallway, which reads in part:

We confess that Jesus calls us to embody a love that disrupts oppression, speaks truth in love, and names injustice (Luke 4:18-19).…

Let us pray:

Holy one, you have given us the dream of peace on earth. At every turn you remind us that we are one human family, and that all living species are meant to share the earth. Yet once again we find ourselves on the brink of another unjust and unnecessary war.

I pray that you fill the minds and hearts of the warmongers with visions of death, of children maimed and bleeding, of women raped, of soldiers blown to bits, of hopelessness and destruction and misery. Help the warmongers truly feel the cost of what they propose to do.…

We pray as Seekers Church for the coming of the one whose name Emanuel means “God with us.” We pray with the people of Palestine and Gaza “Ya Rabbal Salam. Lord of Peace, rain peace upon us. Lord of Peace, fill our land with peace.” Pray with me. Ya Rabbal Salam. Ya Rabbal Salam.

We pray for peace, we pray for justice, we pray that in future years we will not need to put other Christ Children within rubble in our front window, that they will no longer live in the rubble within Lebanon, Yemen, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, Congo, Haiti, Myanmar, between Afghanistan and Pakistan, within Ukraine, and within Russia.…

Holy One, hear our confession of faith:

1. Commandment to Love: We confess that God commands us to love with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves (Deuteronomy 6.5, Mathew 22:36-40; Mark12:30-31). We reject the falsehood that personal comfort or communal safety can be secured through seclusion, scapegoating, or persecution of others. God’s universal love embraces all creation and honors the God-given dignity of all people, no matter who they are or where they are from.

2. Love of Neighbor: We confess the truth of the good Samaritan: Godly love is not confined by legal definitions or cultural preferences—it is universal (Luke 10:25-37).…
