Stewards Meeting

Pandemic Giving Proposal – Trish Nemore on behalf of SLT

At a previous Stewards meeting, Stewards approved funds to San Mateo in Hyattsville and funds to the Capitol Area Food Bank both to support identified needs during the pandemic. SLT proposes an ad hoc category of giving in the budget for pandemic related needs. About quarterly, (based on the schedule of FOG), Stewards would review the budget and ask FOG for a recommendation on funds to give away for pandemic needs. The funds would go to an organization that supports immigrants and also someplace engaged in food assistance. The recommendation does have an impact on the work for FOG and Debbie.

Discussion occurred – requesting clarification on the identified purposes of the funds, the timing of review, and whether this is a restricted or general category (at this point, general is assumed).

The proposal was accepted.

Technology Update – Dave Lloyd

Document was sent out prior to the meeting. Action was taken to confirm that all mission groups and Seekers groups had access to group communication such as Zoom. Survey confirmed this was the case. Every group had at least one, sometimes a private account and sometimes more than one.

Only the care pack team did not have. Will was not troubled by the lack of such. He could reach out by phone.

Only backup was Celebration Circle, with Erica. L&T have Marjory and Jacqie both have capabilities. If other groups want to offer something, the chart can help to identify others with capabilities.

Celebration Circle is not yet ready to make a proposal about using technology for worship in the future when we have the possibility of meeting in person

It was noted that attendees to Sunday worship appear to be gaining proficiency. Erica does general reminder. Brenda noted the professional worship commentary received from some of our younger attendees. They noted our worship service is smooth and not distracting. Thank Glen and Deborah for the effort they particularly put in to this service

Soliciting Ideas for School for Christian Growth – Learners and Teachers Dave noted L&T will make a report in September about classes. The mission group is having a retreat on the 25^th. Recognize the mission group is expected to provide certain classes for growth. Planning zoom in the fall – 6 weeks. As they have gained proficiency with the tool, L&T has had some success with breakout groups (which support the style of a face to face). They solicited suggestions for classes and teachers.

Trish – few of us, book study, on racism. Nancy Lawrence interested in black history.

Deborah – conversation Paul and the Poor offer to teach

Peter – interested in Servant Leadership – broaden and deepen our spiritual companionship, some good experience to share, place where we could use insights

Jacqie – Peter you may have the core of that already? Peter agreed.

Marjory (and Brenda) – cycle thru our own background – periodically

Trish – weddings and funerals – workshop on it particularly at this time

Keith – nature in some way – Jim Hall?

Sandra – interested in nature – recommend Braiding Sweet Grass
