Matrix, by Lauren Groff, is a novel about the 12th century mystic and poet, Marie de France, who for political reasons was exiled to an English nunnery. It is a story of a woman coming to terms with the limited choices she was given in life, deepening her faith and empowering and leading the women of her community to become a beacon of light in a corrupt and unjust world. We will explore what it means to be resilient, faithful, cunning and ambitious in a world that does not value what women have to offer. …
