[River of Light disbanded October 2004]

We will also offer ourselves to individuals or smaller groups to help create rituals of healing or reconciliation. As we grow into our identities as healers and our understanding of healing, we anticipate offering what we learn to our faith community in the form of classes, workshops and retreats. We will also seek ways in which we can individually and collectively take our gifts and experience out to the people and situations beyond our doors that are in need of healing.

Our shared disciplines and weekly times together as a mission group will help prepare us to live our lives as healers. We will take time to invite God's healing work within our lives, so that we can more effectively become channels for God's grace and healing presence. We will practice listening compassionately and non-judgmentally to find the surprising possibilities, the hidden or denied qualities, turning toward hope without turning away from pain.

Former Call of the River of Light Mission Group

Being a healer was at the core of Jesus’ ministry. Jesus sent his disciples forth to heal. We 21st Century disciples seek to learn from Jesus’ ministry, and to share in Christ’s work as Healer. We are called to an ever-deeper understanding of the ways we can embody and manifest Christ’s healing energy in our times.

We know from experience the pain, the imbalances and the brokenness carried in our bodies, in our personal lives and relationships, in our communities, in the earth and the institutions in which we live our lives. We long to experience God’s work of healing and reconciliation in and among us. We recognize there is a crucial link between individual healing and the healing of our communities, which we also call peacemaking, and commit to engaging both these aspects of healing.

We believe that it is God’s Presence that brings healing, and that our mission is to create Sacred Space where individuals can experience God’s healing Presence. We will offer regular times where the wider community can come together to create a circle of healing and reconciliation. These times will be characterized by silence, and by a range of prayerful expressions and mindful activities that share a contemplative focus.
