SCL January 2005

The Seekers School of Christian Living will offer two “brown bag” courses during January. We will gather in the dining room for a brown bag supper (beverages provided) at 7:00 PM. Classes will begin at 7:30 and end by 9:00. No sign-up required; Just drop-in. See our "Where are we?" page to find us and learn how to buzz us to get in, if need be. The classes are “Ministry in Daily Life and the Mutual Ministry Project” and “Praying as Jesus Taught Us.”

Ministry in Daily Life and the Mutual Ministry Project

This two-week class will be offered on January 11 and 18 and led by Doug Wysockey-Johnson. The class will include opportunities to consider if and how our everyday work can be considered 'ministry' as well as attention to how Seekers Church supports ministry in daily life and how we might grow in this area. Attention will also be given to the Faith at Work Mutual Ministry Project, a cooperative effort among several small churches, of which Seekers is a part.

Praying as Jesus Taught Us

This three-week class will meet on January 11, 18 and 25 with leadership from Deborah Sokolove. It will look at the historical development of what came to be known as "The Lord's Prayer", beginning with a comparison of the Matthew 6 and Luke 11 texts, followed by some of the ways that Christian writers from Tertullian onward have interpreted the scriptural sources and changed them for use in liturgy. We will also consider the history of this prayer's translation into English. Participants will share their own experiences of various text(s) of the prayer, including the current Seekers paraphrase, in public worship and in private devotion.
