1. THE GOOD NEWS OF LUKE'S GOSPEL David Lloyd, leader
[10 Tuesday evenings, September 21 - November 30, 2004]
Luke believed that his account of Jesus' life, passion, and resurrection was good news to Gentiles in the Roman Empire. Is Luke's account good news to us? We will review Jesus' ministry, focusing on a number of questions: What is God's plan for the world? What is the kingdom of God like? What does the commitment of one's life to bringing about God's kingdom involve? Why should we make that commitment? Is the kingdom of God a present reality? For continuity and community-building, participants are requested to attend all 10 sessions. You can expect weekly reading and written assignments, prayerful connection with others in the class and the chance to experience how spiritual disciplines in a small group. [Course fulfills New Testament requirement*]
2. WHO IS MY NEIGHBOR? Margreta Silverstone, host
[6 Tuesday evenings, October 5 - November 9, 2004]
The young man asked, "Who is my neighbor?" Jesus' response invited the listeners to expand their understanding of what it means to be a neighbor and to consider the actions of people being neighbors as he envisioned. In this class, Takoma, DC and Takoma Park, MD community residents will be invited speakers to tell stories of where they have seen neighbors and where there is a need for good neighbors. Each week will focus on different "spheres" of influence, examples include political, environmental or artistic. Class participants can come for one or all session, but we need a committed core of participants. If you are interested in having a specific sphere addressed, please Write us.
