FAITH AND FANTASY (10 weeks) -- David Lloyd and the Seekers clowns

Come explore an extraverted, extra-rational process that gets past the defenses of your well-trained verbal personalities to let the Holy Spirit loose in unexpected, life giving ways. We will begin the process of learning the crafts of mime, costume, and physical comedy in the context of the Biblical message. Learning to clown for ministry is a spiritual discipline that can help you learn to love yourself as God loves you and others as yourself. In addition to written homework assignments, we will have physical activity assignments, culminating in an experience of clowning in public. No athletic or creative skills are required, merely a willing heart and open mind. Come to class in casual clothes and let your clown find you.

FOOD AND FAITH (6 weeks) - Sandra Miller

What are connections between them? We will look at the role that food plays in the Bible, in our own lives, in the lives of others, and in the life of the world. Come explore where you are in the food chain and how that works or doesn't work in your life as a Christian. In preparation for the 1st class, think about your favorite passage about food in the Bible and write a brief reflection about why that passage resonates with you.

SCL participants come together at 2025 Massachusetts, meeting for dinner and fellowship at 7:00 p.m. There is a suggested contribution of $4 for the meal. In addition, each participant will share some of the tasks of clean-up after the meal, and of offering after-dinner meditation that helps transition to our class time. The classes begin at 8:00 and end by 9:30 p.m. Class size is limited to 12 participants. These classes are appropriate for anyone of high school age or older.
