Faith and Film

Tuesdays July 8 - 29, 2003
7pm....Brownbag supper at 2025
7:30-9pm....class

Please join us on the last four Tuesdays in July for an exploration of issues of faith and spirit as they emerge from four films. We will gather for a brown bag meal at 7:00, spend half an hour beginning at 7:30 viewing film highlights, with an hour of conversation following. Please feel free to come for any or all of these evenings. Dan Phillips will facilitate. It would be helpful if you had seen the entire film prior to the discussion, but please come even if you haven't.

July 8 - CHARIOTS OF FIRE:  A group of young British men prepare for the 1924 Olympics.

July 15 - APOSTLE:   An evangelical Pentecostal minister kills a member of his staff and has to go into hiding.  While in hiding, he helps revive a dead church.  This was starred-in, written, directed, and produced by Robert Duvall.

July 22 - LEAP OF FAITH: A cheating and cynical evangelist witnesses what appears to be a true miracle. This stars STEVE MARTIN.

July 29 - KEEPING THE FAITH: Three childhood friends re-unite as adults, and must find a solution to their religious and emotional entanglements.  The three friends are Edward Norton, Ben Still, and Jenna Elfman.

SCL participants come together at 2025 Massachusetts Ave NW, meeting for a brown bag dinner and fellowship Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. The classes begin at 7:30 and end by 9:00 p.m.

Come when you can! Participants are welcome to one or all weeks of the class.
