Supporting Participation by All Generations

The Seekers call statement says, "Seekers is committed to participation by persons of all ages. We see children, youth and adults of all ages as valuable and valued parts of our community, and desire their inclusion in our care, our ministry, and our life together."

What do we mean by that? Does our commitment pertain just to those who come toward us and those already in the community? Or does it mean we desire greater age balance among Seekers? If we believe we are all made spiritually richer by the presence of people of all ages, do we want or need to change our structures or outreach to be more welcoming to children, youth as well as younger and older adults?

In this three week class, we will consider our own personal issues with this aspect of our call, remind ourselves of the ways we have been faithful to it over our 27 years of community life, as well as the ways we have failed to be faithful, and envision our future by considering the gaps, if any, between where we "are" and where we want to be and what steps are needed to move us forward. Participants are encouraged to be present at all three weeks of the class, but can participate through the reading and journaling activities.

Stewards are strongly encouraged to participate in this series of classes, in preparation for a discussion of the subject at the June Stewards meeting.

SCL participants come together at 2025 Massachusetts, meeting for a brown bag dinner and fellowship at 7:00 p.m. The classes begin at 7:30 and end by 9:00 p.m.
