"Working to End all War"

          The School of Christian Living, together with the Seekers Church Peace Witness, is sponsoring an Advent series of three classes exploring one of Seekers' Church members' commitments: to "work for the ending of all war, public and private."

December 3: Exploring the community's commitment. 

          Since the years of the Vietnam War, the Church of the Saviour communities have included a commitment to ending all war, public and private, as part of its commitment statement. Our first session will begin with an exploration of how we can create safe space to speak about an area that is potentially devisive. There will also be time to speak about our individual understandings of this commitment, how we have worked with it, and where it challenges us now.  

December 10:The Christian scriptural witness

          Whatever else we bring to our consideration of the questions of war and peace, we as Christians have to deal with Jesus, with his words and with his very specific way of death.  In our second session, we will explore a number of Jesus' statements, as well as the meaning of the choices he made around his way of death. How can Jesus' words and actions inform the choices now before us as 21^st Century American Christians?

December 17: The Table is big enough

          In our final session, we will explore what is needed for this community to create Christian fellowship capable of holding our diversity. We will explore speaking and listening within a diverse community. It's not always easy.  We will work with the challenge that each of us carries the responsibility and the risk of speaking out of our conscientious struggle to apply our Christian faith to the important public choices about war and peace that face us now.

The Advent  Series

The three classes are designed to be inter-related, but interested persons of middle-school age or older are welcome to come to any or all of the sessions. Short readings, scripture passages or questions for consideration will be posted to the Seekers' e-list a few days before each session. 

Please gather for brown bag dinner at 7 p.m.  A brief worship will begin at 7:30, followed by class discussion.
