Learners and Teachers is glad to be offering the following two courses for the Fall 2000 School of Christian Living. Both classes begin Tuesday, September 19, at 7pm with community dinner.

"My father was a homeless Aramean..." (Deut. 26:5)

This class will survey the Hebrew Scriptures, focusing on themes relevant to our individual and community lives:

• call and response
• return from exile
• holiness
• sin
• repentance and forgiveness
• grace

We will spend a significant amount of time in small groups, discussing our responses to homework reading and questions, and raising further questions. This class fulfills the Hebrew Scriptures requirement for those pursuing membership as a Steward in the Seekers Church. Twelve weeks, beginning September 19. Lead by David Lloyd

Spiritual Direction

This six weeks class is intended to nurture the Spiritual Directors in mission groups and anyone else interested in this crucial relationship. The course will cover the basics:

• theological assumptions underlying spiritual direction
• spirituality and the adult life cycle
• narrative, image and metaphor in spiritual direction
• discernment and prayer in spiritual direction
• deepening the directing relationship
• boundaries and beyond

Interested Seekers should purchase and read Margaret Guenther's book, Holy Listening: the Art of Spiritual Direction before the first session. It is available from the Potter's House or amazon.com. Facilitated by Marjory Bankson
