This course will be a survey of the Older Testament, beginning with a consideration of what it is and what to call it. We will use an historical perspective to look at selections from the stories of the ancestors; slavery, redemption and covenant; prophets and kings; exile and return. We will use a variety of translations and other study helps, in order to get a better understanding of what the ancient authors were trying to say, and the context in which they were saying it. Please bring your favorite Bible to the first class meeting.
Led by Ron Arms and Marjory Bankson
Zen monks have traditionally shaven their heads as a symbol of their renunciation of the world, its desires and ways. In Mel Ash's Shaving the Inside of your Skull, we are reminded that too often we confuse the exterior fashions and symbols of belief with true interior change. In balding your brain, this crazy wisdom invites its readers to a new way of Being. This is a course for the playful and the irreverent. It's guaranteed to make your hair grow where you least expect it! Let crazy wisdom put spirit in your life.
