Carroll St. Teams

In March 2000, we formed ten teams of Seekers to help plan and coordinate our efforts to make our home on Carroll Street. Each team has assumed responsibility for supporting some part of our community life during the move.

Much of our community leadership and support will be coming from these teams. To improve communications, each team has a private e-mail group. In addition to working members, each e-group includes one or more Seekers who are facilitating communication among the teams. To participate in a Carroll Street team or find out when it will be meeting, please contact the team coordinator, listed below. If you have trouble, let me know -- and keep Praying!

Community Links: Help coordinate Seekers outreach to our new neighbors in Takoma DC and Takoma Park MD.

“The Community Links group will serve in establishing relationships between  Seekers Church and the Takoma/Takoma Park community into which we are moving.  Through a process of dialogue with churches, community organizations and individuals, the Community Links group will seek to learn about the community: its history, current energies and issues, and its visions for the future.  As part of this process, the group will also be introducing Seekers’ Church to its new neighbors, and identifying areas in which Seekers’ might be in future partnerships within the community.  It will also be identifying ways in which individual Seekers might become involved in community activities.

As Community Links hears from our new neighbors more about our new home community and the possible ways Seekers might become involved within it,  the group will share what it hears with Seekers, so that it might serve as one important piece of the discussion of what it will mean to “be church” in Takoma/Takoma Park."

Outreach Ministries: Support planning for new Seekers ministries from Carroll Street.

The Outreach Ministries Team will guide, inform and facilitate the necessary spiritual work of discerning call as we transition from being church at 2025 Massachusetts Avenue, to being church at 272-278 Carroll Street.  We will encourage and nurture emerging calls and seek to uphold those places where our calls, both individual and corporate, can meet the needs of our new community and our world.

To do this, we will listen carefully to:

·        emerging calls of individuals within our community,

·        how our current calls can be incorporated into our new home

·        emerging corporate roles that we want to play in Takoma/Takoma Park, and

·        needs of our new community as they are identified.

Coordinator:  Brenda Seat

Spiritual Grounding: Support the spiritual life of Seekers during the move to Carroll Street.

"The Spiritual Grounding Group is called to tend the inner life of emerging groups, provide pastoral care for individuals and invite the sacred into Carroll Street."  We listed five specific task areas as ways to initially address this call:

·        Pastoral Care: providing one to one support for those who are feeling pain, stress or distance in the community.

·        Tending the Inner Life of Working Groups: listening for group issues and stresses, offering prayer for the groups, noticing or supporting informal spiritual direction for the groups, perhaps through support of particular members who take on that group role informally.

·        Noticing who is not in any work groups: systematically looking for those who aren't connected, and stay in dialogue.

·        Helping to design rituals of closure.

·        Inviting/ assisting groundedness in our new space: preparing the opportunity to invite the sacred into Carroll Street.”

                                                                                                June 2, 2000

Coordinator:  Cynthia Dahlin

Stewardship: Help plan and lead Seekers stewardship initiatives during our move to Carroll Street.

The Stewardship Group will lead the community in the Spirit-work and practical tasks of relating our financial lives to our lives as Seekers.  This work has a two-fold goal:

·        to gather the financial resources needed to renovate our new home at Carroll Street and

·        to deepen our individual and collective abilities to use our material resources in ways that respond truly to God’s calls on our lives.
