Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer with Special Guest Rocky Delaplaine
Join CATHY FINK & MARCY MARXER as they celebrate 40 years in the Washington, DC, area and the release of their 48th recording together, WAHOO! Longtime pal and poet Joanne Rocky Delaplaine will join them as their special guest.
Grammy winners Cathy & Marcy are consummate entertainers, master musicians, and roots music trailblazers who back up their superb harmonies with instrumental virtuosity on the guitar, five-string banjo, ukulele, mandolin, cello-banjo, and more. The duo will feature tunes from their new CD celebrating the magic of the ukulele with western swing, calypso, jazz, Appalachian, Celtic, and tango.
They have performed with Pete Seeger, Theodore Bikel, Tom Paxton, Patsy Montana, Riders in the Sky, and a wide range of musical luminaries. They have entertained the Queen of Thailand, been keynote singers for the AFL-CIO, appeared on the “Today Show” and on National Public Radio. The Washington Area Music Association has recognized the duo with over 60 WAMMIE Awards for folk, bluegrass, and children’s music. Cathy & Marcy advocate in Washington for unions, health care for children, and the rights and livelihoods of artists.
Rocky Delaplaine will share poems from her new book, The Local World. Her work is influenced by experiences growing up in Maryland, D.C., and Bogota, Columbia; motherhood; political activism; and life as a yoga teacher and student.
