Seekers Church:
An Intentional Christian Community
in the tradition of Church of the Saviour
Who We Are
Seekers Church is a Christian community of approximately 100 people
of all ages, many of whom come from a variety of Christian faith
traditions. We believe that each person, young or old, regardless of
experience, skills or education, is called by God to a life of love and
service, and that God's call is expressed in each person by a desire
both to do work in the world (the outer journey) and to experience
God's presence in our innermost being (the inner journey).
We have our roots in the Church of
the Saviour, an ecumenical church founded in Washington, DC in 1947.
Seekers Church was formed in 1976 as one of six communities within the
Church of the Saviour and assumed independent status in 1994.
To nourish the inner spiritual life, Seekers Church. . .
- Conducts classes for children, youth, and adults.
- Offers weekend-long silent retreats twice a year.
- Encourages members to establish daily spiritual
practices.
- Provides the opportunity for spiritual accountability through
membership in small groups and one-to-one relationships.
Seekers Church . . .
- Encourages all members to implement Christian servanthood in
their everyday lives - in their families and primary relationships, in
their workplaces, and as citizens.
- Commits about half the church's income to outward
mission.
- Supports the vocations of individual Seekers whose work, both
here and around the world, is an expression of their Christian
calling.
- Sponsors mission groups that work with others to address the
needs of the inner city.
To challenge and support its members on their faith journeys,
Seekers Church . . .
- Creates worship services each Sunday that reflect the rich and
diverse traditions from which Seekers come, using words, music,
liturgical dance and clowning, visual art, and silence.
- Implements a belief in the priesthood of all believers by sharing
the ministries often divided between clergy and laity.
- Includes children and youth (who make up about one third of the
community) in all aspects of community life.
- Welcomes people of all ages, races, and sexual
orientation.
Come Journey With Us
We invite you to join us on a shared faith journey. We gather at
9:15am each Sunday for informal sharing and an opportunity to greet
newcomers before beginning our worship at 9:30.
Seekers Church meets in Washington, DC on Massachusetts Avenue near
the Dupont Circle Metro station.
