Seekers Silent Retreat at Dayspring
"Accessing the Spirit" SEPT 24 – 26, 2010
Doug Dodge, Leader Marjory Bankson, Assistant
Silent retreat in the company of other Seekers deepens our collective trust in God's presence. It is an important part of the "journey inward," needed to sustain our life and work in the world. By releasing our need to interact with words, we can enter the greater silence of God's love and listen for the leading of the Spirit with fresh ears. Doug Dodge, our leader for this retreat, has been with Church of the Saviour since 1969 and Seekers Church since we began in 1976. He is a founding member of the Board of Directors of Manna, the housing ministry that helped Seekers us renovate our home on Carroll Street. He spent a quarter century working in the Department of Justice to support programs that help young people succeed in school and life.

The Namesake
Gogol Ganguli is torn between his parents' Indian traditions and his decidedly modern lifestyle, and frankly prefers for his friends to call him "Nick." But the true meaning of his name is a story that spans two continents -- and two generations. Based on Jhumpa Lahiri's best-selling novel, this coming-of-age drama explores first-generation Americans' delicate dance between culture and identity.
We the People Union is sponsored by The Sacred Conversation on Race and Diversity Planning Committee, an interfaith project of Seekers Church and Covenant Christian Community. |
God is Always More
July 15, 2010
Seven members and alumni of Seekers Church are on their way to Guatemala as part of a Lumunos / Faith @ Work Pilgrimage.
On this 9th annual pilgrimage, the group will again be working with the Mayan organization 'Programa de Ayuda a los Vecinos del Altiplano' - PAVA (Aid Program for Highland Communities). PAVA helps disadvantaged but eager communities build the schools and running water systems they need to support community life and the bridges they need to connect them with the world outside the village.

Seekers Bike Riders
Help Raise Money for Guide Dogs
July 1, 2010
Seekers Cyclers rode in the 50-mile Bay-to-Bay bike ride on Maryland's Eastern Shore last Sunday, and all eleven of us finished in good form while having a great time. The ride is sponsored every year by the Lions Club of Chestertown Maryland. They give money to several charities, especially for leader dogs for blind people. We learned that this year almost four hundred riders contributed more than ten thousand dollars for that work.

A Milestone Wedding at Seekers Church |
|
Because of the recent change in DC law regarding marriage, Kate Cudlipp and Carole Grunberg were able to celebrate their wedding at Seekers Church on June 11 after 28 years together in a committed relationship.
On June 11th, friends and family packed the sanctuary for the ceremony with Peter and Marjory Bankson officiating, then enjoyed hors d'oeuvres downstairs and returned for an elegant catered dinner and many heartfelt toasts. The liturgy we used and Marjory's reflections on marriage are posted in the "Worship" section of our web site. |
