John is happy that two of his new poems will appear in the Spring 2011 issue of Poetry East, published at DePaul University in Chicago. He's been trying to get in that journal for quite a while! Poetry East was ranked by London's Poetry Review as one of the top 20 literary journals in the United States. You can read the poems here.
Seekers Church has a long history with FLOC (For Love of Children.)
Fred Taylor, one of our co-founders, was the executive director of FLOC when it began in 1965. The Spirit has always led Seekers Church, as individuals and as a family of faith, into missions and ministries that support children and families. FLOC is dedicated to providing students in the District of Columbia with the resources they need to achieve educational and personal success.
On January 17th, Allison Henken and Amber Shollenberger brought us a message of hope and a call for help. Their sermon felt like a strong affirmation of our worship theme for this season after Epiphany: "Look What's Here!"
For more information about FLOC and how you might help them help students all over the city, visit their web site.
The Bokamoso Youth Centre Theatre group is here again!
Today they brought their message of hope to those of us who gathered for worship at Seekers Church. It was wonderful to welcome them again. This week members of the group will be working with mentors to build the skills they need to help them claim the futures they hold in their dreams. The group will be here through the first week in February.
Their schedule is at http://www.bokamosoyouth.org/.
On Christmas Eve we were blessed in so many ways as we gathered for our annual celebration of food and song and prayer. We welcomed many of our “graduates,” who returned from far and near to wait together again the birth of Jesus.
