AGENDA

Othandweni Update and Report: Linda & Bill

Bill and Linda have laid down their call to serve as Seekers representatives to Othandweni.  This has occurred due to internal issues there that have not been resolvable.  We thanked Biill and Linda for their generous devotion of time and effort over many years.  Seekers International giving support will end with this year’s contribution.  (See attachment)

Carroll Café – a ministry of Seekers Church: Sandra

There is good news of a successful season that Carroll Café made money on all but 3 concerts.  Funds in the restricted account increased about $2,000 for the season and without figures from Debbie, the estimate is that the restricted fund is now around  $8,000.  Next season will be the 10th.  A final accounting is in the works.

The Carroll Café committee consists of Glen Yakushiji, Margreita Silverstone, Denise LeClair, Doug Dodge and Sandra Miller.   This core team makes a year-by-year commitment.

  • We are paying DC sales tax on ticket and kitchen income.
  • Glen plans to buy a new mixer this year
  • The committee offers to pay $50 per concert (9 Fridays a season) to hire a teen for the season. Each applicant will be interviewed.
  • The committee is actively looking for more adult volunteers for next season. Seekers members have stepped in when volunteers for specific concerts have been short.  However, there are no other members willing to make a commitment for service to this ministry.
  • Jesse has been invited to open for the In Process He is considering acceptance.

Mid-year 2019 FOG update: Keith

Outreach Mission Group (OMG): Joan

The recent luncheon held in June was well received.  It was hosted by 3 OMG members at the Mediterranean restaurant in Takoma Park.  Guests included 9 adults and 2 children.

In order to answer questions about Seekers Church, the idea of an “ask-it basket” has been proposed.  It will be for everyone, not just new people.  It will have a physical presence as well as digital.  The person asking a question is encouraged to sign their name but it’s not mandatory.   Questions may come from attendees not yet on the Seekers email list.  The logistics are being finalized.

Coffee Hour: Brenda

Clean up after the Sunday service is an orphan in need of volunteers – two people to co-ordinate it on a regular basis is requested.  Elizabeth volunteered provided another person steps up.  Brenda hoped for another Steward very soon.  If not, she will open it up to the congregation.  Clean up ideally starts at 11:45 and finishes by 12 noon.

Seeker’s Children: Dave

We have a new handout – Amended Children’s Word – to guide those preparing to speak to the children on Sunday mornings.   The document serves as suggestions to consider.  It opens the conversation only. (See attachment).

The Children’s Team is actively reviewing curriculums for the next school year beginning September.

Steward sharing: Trish

Soul Talk concluded our meeting.
